Are you showing more skin these days? Don’t take that the wrong way-with Spring here and summer on the way, it is an important time of the year to focus on your skin. It seems like now more than ever our appearance matters most. Since the skin is the largest organ you have (shocking I know-you thought it was your heart), we need to take special care both inside and out.
Before I get into the supplement angle, I want to bring up something that often gets overlooked-filtered water. More specifically-filtering the water you bathe in. It is imperative to use a shower filtration device if you want to have the healthiest skin possible. You skin is like a sponge. It soaks up whatever it comes in contact with. In this case, the toxins in your water will be absorbed into your blood stream and over a period of time can lead some serious health issues. Skin conditions such as: the water you bathe in can cause all Acne, Itching, Rashes, etc. Believe it or not, your skin will feel smother and your hair will look significantly better just by using one of these devices.
Is beauty only skin deep? NO! My experience is that you need to work at your outer by starting inside the body. Proper nutrition and the use of dietary supplements is the best way to achieve great skin. One supplement area that often gets overlooked with regards to skin health is taking a probiotic. The skin is a “reflection” of what your digestive lining looks like. By improving your overall gut health you will often see dramatic changes in your skin. One probiotic I was recently introduced to (PA5051) has studies done in dogs showing this exact impact on skin health in dogs. The photos are mind-blowing to say the least.
Here are some of the areas in which Probiotics impact your skin health and appearance:
Detoxification: Taking a probiotic will help neutralize toxin-forming bacteria in the digestive system and help remove these from your body. This reduction will help improve skin health because toxins leave the body in 3-ways, through your urine, bowel movements and skin (sweating). If you have fewer toxins in the body you are more likely to have better-looking skin.
Constipation: Constipation can contribute to bad skin and acne, Probiotics like PA5051 can help your bowel movement and help “get things moving”.
Intestinal Lining: Reinforce the barrier function of the intestinal lining which in turn can help reduce foreign proteins from entering the bloodstream, which is a major contributing factor to conditions such as eczema, acne and psoriasis.
Inflammation: If too much unhealthy food is causing inflammation in the gut, this can cause the issues with the skin too. Probiotics can help support the body’s fight against inflammation in the gut and allow the body to heal and rejuvenate all areas including the skin.
As you may already know, I am a firm believer that ALL of us regardless of age, health or gender should take a probiotic daily. They are one of my four “foundational supplements” and if you aren’t a believer yet, perhaps your skin will be a great reason to add one into your daily supplement program.
